LAS VEGAS, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — As part of the company’s Worldwide Rally in Las Vegas this week, Domino’s Pizza tested delivering its pizzas using ZAP (BULLETIN BOARD: ZAAP) all-electric vehicles supplied to them by The Electric Vehicle Company. As the pizza delivery experts, the electric vehicle deliveries reinforce Domino’s desire to bring cost-saving, environmentally friendly delivery options to its stores around the world.

On Sunday, Domino’s made actual pizza deliveries around the Las Vegas area in the ZAP electric vehicles.

“Today it is not uncommon to have your Domino’s pizza delivered by bicycle, scooter or car around the world,” said Jim Stansik, Domino’s executive vice president of Franchise Development. “Looking toward tomorrow, Domino’s is committed to also being a responsible consumer of our planet’s natural resources by testing the feasibility of using electric vehicles in our stores.”

The Electric Vehicle Company (EVC) of Chicago is making its all-electric vehicles available to consumer product companies for use as an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient option for conducting deliveries, mobile advertising and event marketing programs.

Its ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) line of XEBRA cars, pickup trucks, ATVs and scooters are perfect for driving around cities and at special events — even indoors — without worrying about harming the environment. Their unique styling will definitely catch consumers’ eyes and can be easily wrapped with signage.

“Mobile event marketing and advertising with an electric ZAP vehicle not only allows a company to send a message about its product in a unique and cost-effective way, but also delivers a message that the company cares about the environment,” says EVC president Larry Spatz.

The ZAP XEBRA is the only federally declared, street-legal, 100 percent electric car that plugs into any 110-volt outlet — the same outlet that is found in and outside every home, garage and office. The XEBRA is considered by ZAP as a ‘city-car,’ an all-electric design for city-speed driving up to 40 MPH. The XEBRA comes in a 4-door sedan or pickup truck with a convertible dump/flat bed. It plugs into a 110-volt outlet for a full charge in up to six hours and a 50 percent charge in up to 1.5 hours. Range varies up to 40 miles per charge depending on charging, speed, driving conditions and other factors. Fueling is estimated to cost 1-3 cents per mile while maintenance costs one-third that of gas due to the reduction of moving parts, less wear and replacements.

“Rising energy costs have become a major concern when budgeting for mobile advertising and event marketing programs,” added Bob Kopach, EVC vice president of sales and marketing. “At $3 per gallon gas and higher, driving an all-electric ZAP XEBRA makes a lot of financial sense.”

Details about The Electric Vehicle Company and ZAP vehicles can be found at http://www.planetevc.com/.

Electric car pioneer ZAP, which stands for “Zero Air Pollution,” is asking people to celebrate Earth Day with them by inviting everyone to local dealerships to experience “Zero Air Pollution Driving.”

ZAP is promoting electric cars as a way to fight global warming, but also has a simpler idea — planting trees. As part of ZAP’s “Zero Air Pollution Test Drive to Fight Global Warming,” which will begin on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 and run through Monday, April 30, for each test drive, ZAP will pledge a tree towards its “Million Tree Challenge.”

ZAP’s XEBRA (pronounced ‘zebra) 100% electric car and truck are now available, some of the only consumer electric vehicles in the US that can meet the need for gas-free, city-speed driving. The XEBRA is considered by ZAP as a ‘city-car,’ an all-electric design for city-speed driving up to 40 mph. They plug into any 110-volt outlet — the same outlet that is found in and outside every home, garage and office.

Launched in October 2006 with its Chinese manufacturing partners, ZAP’s “Million Tree Challenge” has planted over 64,000 trees with the goal of planting a million trees by 2010. ZAP is challenging individuals, corporations, government agencies and other groups to join its challenge, teaming up with tree-planting groups around the world so that for a $25 minimum pledge to http://www.zaptrees.org/, 200 trees will be planted in the name of the benefactor who will receive a certificate for their contribution.

In addition to a test drive of the XEBRA, experts will be on hand to answer questions about the technology and features of this unique vehicle. The XEBRA comes in a 4-door sedan or pickup truck with a convertible dump/flat bed and ranges in price from $10,000 to $12,000. It plugs into a 110-volt outlet for a full charge in up to six hours and a 50 percent charge in 1.5 hours.

Range varies up to 40 miles per charge depending on charge, speed, driving conditions and other factors. Fueling is estimated to cost 1-3 cents per mile while maintenance costs one-third that of gas due to the reduction of moving parts, less wear and replacements.

If you’re looking for a ZAP electric car and you live near Davis, California, then you’re in luck–a ZAP car dealership opened this week in Davis.

This is the first electric car dealership for Davis, California. Davis is famous for being one of the most bicycle-friendly towns in the world. The University of California at Davis is also known for advanced transportation technologies, with its renowned Institute for Transportation Studies. Theo Drushell and Tom Kelly are Davis’ first electric car dealers, with Davis Electric Cars.

The new dealership carries ZAP’s XEBRA Sedan and Truck. ZAP calls the XEBRA (pronounced ‘zebra’) a ‘city-car,’ designed for short distance driving up to 40 MPH. Able to plug into any standard electrical outlet, the XEBRA was designed to quickly and affordably fill the need for all-electric cars and trucks brought on by recent high gas prices. ZAP says the XEBRA can be a great value for corporate and business fleets looking to save money on fuel, but also could be just what environmentalists are looking for as an alternative. Customers can even order zebra-stripes.

ZAP manufactures the XEBRA electric car and truck through a strategic partnership with a Chinese automaker and sells them through a licensed sales and service network for about $10,000. The cars will cost about $0.02 cents per mile to charge on electricity versus $0.12 cents or more for gasoline.

You can see the vehicles and meet with the owners at the dealership or at upcoming events like the UC Davis Picnic Day Parade (Saturday April 14th 10AM), the Green Car Gala (John Natsoulas Gallery: 521 First Street ~ Saturday April 14th 6:30PM-10PM), and Celebrate Davis! (Community Park ~ May 17, 2007 4:30PM-9:00PM). On April 21st from noon-4:00PM, Davis Electric Cars will host a Grand Opening Celebration at its Olive Drive location.

One of the great benefits of electric cars is less maintenance (they have less than 10% the moving parts when compared to a gasoline vehicle). Electric vehicles don’t have pistons, transmission, engine oil, spark plugs, valves, grinding starters, clutch, rotors, distributor, oil filters, fuel pumps, fuel filters, air filters, radiators, anti-freeze, water pumps, timing belts, fan belts, catalytic converters, or mufflers. No fumes, no exhaust, no smog tests, no oil changes, no radiator flushes, no loud engine, no warm-ups, no gas lines, and the batteries are recyclable.

The owners of Davis Electric Cars, Theo Drushell and Tom Kelly, are advocates of bicycle transportation first and EV transportation as an alternative. Theo (a graduate of Humboldt State University) and his wife (a graduate of UC Davis) are committed to working with the community in bringing this venture to life. Tom (a graduate of UC Berkeley) has been a long-time advocate of utilizing technology to promote advancement in an environmentally friendly manner. He pioneered a toner cartridge recycling company in the 1980s that is currently saving over 200 tons of plastics from entering our landfills every month.

A publicly owned company based in Santa Rosa, California, ZAP has strong ties with UC Davis. Many employees in ZAP’s 12-year history were UC Davis graduates. ZAP Chairman Gary Starr built his first electric car as an undergraduate at UC Davis in 1974 during the gasoline shortages caused by the OPEC oil embargo. ZAP’s first dealership in Santa Rosa, California is managed by UC Davis graduate Jeff Schneider.

ZAP has been a leader in advanced transportation technologies since 1994, delivering nearly 100,000 vehicles to consumers in more than 75 countries. At the forefront of fuel-efficient transportation with new technologies including energy efficient gas systems, hydrogen, electric, fuel cell, ethanol, hybrid and other innovative power systems, ZAP is developing a high-performance crossover SUV electric car concept called ZAP-X engineered by Lotus Engineering. The Company recently launched a new portable energy technology that manages power for mobile electronics, like cell phones and laptops.

The Electric car maker ZAP has unveiled concept drawings of the ZAP-X Crossover SUV on its website Zapworld.com.

The images of the ZAP-X are also highlighted in the new issue of Popular Science, April 2007, in an article entitled “Who killed the gas guzzler?” including an interview with ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. The issue is on newsstands now as well as online at http://www.popsci.com/.

The design sketches highlight the styling, performance and technology that ZAP plans to incorporate into the ZAP-X. The compact-SUV design will feature all-wheel drive with in-hub electric motors capable to deliver 644 horsepower and a top speed of 155mph. By combining a lightweight aluminum chassis, a new efficient drive system and advanced battery management system, the goal for the ZAP-X is to be able to achieve 350-mile range, with a rapid 10-minute recharging time.

“We believe that the ZAP-X will become the most advanced, most practical and most appealing flagship electric vehicle to date and will revolutionize the industry providing the driver with the enjoyment of a sports car and the practicality of an SUV,” says ZAP CEO Steve Schneider.

ZAP currently markets an affordable city-speed electric car and truck called the XEBRA through its automotive distribution portal marketing. ZAP’s authorized auto dealer network will offer sales, service and parts distribution for the lineup of vehicles being developed by ZAP and its strategic partners in Europe, Asia and South America.
