Segway Riders Can Upgrade To New I2s Through Trade-In Program
Segway of Oakland, California is making it easier on the wallets of Segway owners wishing to upgrade to the newly designed i2 unit. The Oakland, Calif. dealership will pay anywhere from $1,500 to $2,800 for older models in working order, helping to defray the cost of purchasing a new i2.
“We are helping our customers by providing value for used Segways and making it easy for them to pick up the i2s,” said Segway of Oakland partner, Darren Romar. “The i2 is a unique riding experience unlike anything Segway has manufactured in the past, and I think every Segway enthusiast who tries it is going to want one. We will take Segway i67 and p models at $1,500, i70s at $1,800, and those newer models with newer lithium batteries at up to $2,800. We invite all Segway enthusiasts to come into the shop and try out one of these second-generation units.”
Segway of Oakland partner, Steve Steinberg, describes the new, flexible handlebar style on the i2 as “a world away” from the prior riding technique, which called for the rider to rotate a grip on the stationary handlebar in order to turn the self-balancing, two-wheeled electric machine. With the i2, the handlebar’s flexibility is what turns the platform, with a rider leaning one way or another to negotiate the turn.
“This is a brand new riding experience,” he added. “It feels a lot more like inline skating, and the rider feels more involved. It’s a great workout, too, so skiers and snowboarders will find it excellent for cross training as that season approaches.”
The popular Segway rental and sales dealership located at 212 International Blvd. in Oakland has been active in the Segway community since the company’s early p units rolled off the production line. Segway of Oakland is involved in pioneering Segway Polo, which has enjoyed growing media exposure thanks to the inaugural “world championship” tournament in New Zealand earlier this year. Steinberg participated in that event.
“We are also the leading Segway custom aluminum fabricator with our specialty accessories that include trailers, fenders, hitches and skid plates,” Steinberg noted. “We’ve created a number of units specific to company requests, and our projects were used by LG Electronics, Federal Express, and Electronic Arts, among many others.”
