Continental Warranty Extended Auto Warranties

One of the reasons that I go through so many vehicles (about one new truck every 1.5 years or so), is that I drive a lot. As a result, one of the other reasons is that I want to drive a vehicle that’s very reliable–and one that has a warranty associated with it.

We all know that new cars and trucks come with warranties–some are better than others, with the average new car warranty being about 3 years and 36,000 miles (or about the same number of miles and amount of time). I personally drive about 5,000 miles a month or more, so those 36,000 miles go pretty quickly. So, if you’re a higher mileage driver like me, then you most likely need to either trade in your vehicle or buy an extended warranty.

Continental Warranty is a company that offers extended warranties for vehicles. One of the the things that you need to know is that the most reputable extended warranty administrators are backed by insurance companies, rather than “risk retention groups”. Contintental Warranty’s insurance companies are:
– Great American Insurance Company
– Lyndon Property Insurance Company: a Protective Company
– General Fidelity Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Bank of America Corporation

I took a look at what
extended warranty coverage is available for the pickup I am currently driving, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. I first went to the Continental Warranty home page and clicked on my State, which is Texas. I then selected my mileage, which is “0 – 60,000”. They quickly came back with the “Freedom Plus” plan, by “Great American Insurance Company”:

Great American’s Freedom Plus plan is the perfect warranty coverage for your vehicle. If you’re still under warranty and have less than 60,000 miles on your vehicle, you may be eligible for the very best coverage Great American offers. This warranty plan is valid at any licensed mechanic and dealership in the United States and Canada.

I was also offered some additional coverage options, the “Additional Coverage: Roadside Assistance Package”. To get more information, I need to then request a quote or call one of the phone numbers listed on the page.

I also took a look at the Continental Warranty Auto Warranty Glossary, which is pretty helpful. there’s a bunch of terms that I’m not necessarily familiar with, especially the definition of certified car and gray market vehicle. I’ve heard of those, but it’s helpful to know exactly what they mean.

Overall, the whole experience is pretty painless–and can definitely give you additional peace of mind if the vehicle you’re currently driving is just past or will be past its original warranty.

This is a paid review of Continental Warranty.
